SIS 38 on "Traffic Management for cities around the world"
Creation date: 02 October 2009
Special Interest Session (SIS 38) on "Traffic Management for cities around the world" was held during the ITS Congress in Stockholm, Sweden, on Friday 25th September from 9:00 to 10:30
Organiser and Invited moderator: Patrick Mercier-Handisyde, Head of Urban Transport Research, European Commission, DG Research - Transport
Description of the session: There are serious transport issues worldwide that affect the environment, safety mobility and efficency of cities. Economic growth coupled with the exponential demographic growth in the most dynamic cities, create unprecedented pressure on the transport system, which must respond to the challenge of the increasing number of vehicles, as well as to the number pf travels and to urban sprawl. These issues afflict cities in both the developed and developing world. The European Commission has funded a number of projects that unite European organisations with stakeholders in other regions of the world to jointly address these issues that afflict the developed and developing world alike. This session explored the ongoing activities and results of successful projects such as SIMBA, STADIUM, VIAJEO and CONDUITS.
