Brazil to rebuild key road route

Creation date: 31 August 2007

Brazil is planning to rebuild the entire 5.758km length of the key BR-174 highway, located to the south of the country. The authorities say that rather than being a series of patch repairs, it will involve entirely rebuilding the highway, reports Business News Americas.

The BR-174 highway is the main ground link through the Amazon jungle from Manaus in the state of Amazonia to Pacaraima in Roraima, located on the border with Venezuela.

The national transport infrastructure department will work to license the project by the end of the year in order for work to start in 2008.
