Beijing to construct Asia's largest subway transfer station

Creation date: 29 June 2009

Reporters learned from the Beijing Urban Construction Group on May 7 that Beijing subway's Songjiazhuang Station, which is still under construction, will be the largest subway transfer station in Asia, with a total floor area of 51,000 square meters, seven times as large as a football field.

It was learned that Beijing's subway's Songjiazhuang transfer station will be completed and put into operation in September 2012. When it is completed, subway transfer for Line 5, Line 10 and the Yizhuang Line will be possible on the same floor level, making Songjiazhuang an important comprehensive traffic hub in the southeast region of Beijing.

To date, Beijing has constructed railway lines in the 30-kilometer-radius area around Tiananmen Square.
