India sets ambitious highway plan Creation date: 25 August 2009 India's Road Transport and Highways Ministry has plans to grant 58 contracts with a total value of US$3.94 billion over the next 12 months. The plans are for the construction and upgrade of more than 7,000km of roads nationwide. The work will include widening many roads into two lanes. Bidders for the tenders will be pre-qualified for a year, while contracts may be awarded either through state governments or by the federal government.
