Creation date: 09 August 2007

Stringent action will be taken against those who flout road rules and put other road users to peril, according to Collector T.N. Venkatesh. Simultaneously all efforts would be taken to enhance road safety in Karur district, he said.

A model traffic rules awareness theme park would be established at the Collectorate shortly, he added. Addressing the Road Safety Committee meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Venkatesh said the Chief Minister had laid stress on road safety aspects during the recent Collectors' conference in Chennai and had urged administrators to create an awareness of the issue among teachers especially.

The meeting was a follow-up on the directive, he added. A total of 48 places had been identified, where accidents take place frequently and vigil stepped up at those places. Police and transport Department personnel would take strict action against vehicles that flout road rules.
